Dear Fam.
Have I every told you missions are crazy? Because they are. You asked if they celebrate Chinese new year? Oh yes, yes I think they do. For about 4 days. And that's not an exaggeration. And all the days have different things. Like one day is 'Wai gods' day. Every one of Chinese decent goes to Buddhist temples and are really Buddhist. One day they go visit their family. I don't know what the other days, but all 4 days they set off these fire crackers that are about the size of three cereal boxes put together. They're way loud. And the first day I heard it I was like "was that a bomb? are we going to die?" Nope. Fire cracker. Yeah. Good times.
So, this week we had a baptism for sister G and her daughter N. They are so awesome. Elder Gilley said interviewing sister N was his favorite interview of his mission, and he's leaving this next transfer. She's 8, and he asked do you love God, and she was like "yes, I pray to him every night." And he asked 'Do you love Jesus?' she said "elder! why would I be here if I didn't?" She's a sassy bucket. Their baptism was amazing. The whole ward was so excited for her to be baptized. (even thought they couldn't really make it to her baptism.)
They next day I had a 'fun' experience. We usually invite (Dan Jones) in front of this 7/11 so we were going over there, and suddenly I felt like we shouldn't. I was like "crap now I have to tell sister Stack." So I opened my mouth and it came out "sister Stack we can't go over there." We had already been over there earlier that day, and we knew there was a political protest going on, but they're all peaceful. But for some reason I felt we shouldn't go. Sister stack was like "I don't feel anything, but I'll trust you on this." I don't know why, but I know that God's watchin' out for us. The elders said they were thinking of going over there, but ended up not as well. weird.
This week, all of our investigators decided not to answer our phone calls, all 5 of them. Grr. So we did 15+ hours of inviting. so tiring. And we still have no one. But we keep it up.
"Cold season" ended in Thailand, so it's hot already. Sister Stack had her birthday this week! She's now 22. we may or may not have sang a Taylor Swift song. We had the baptism on her birthday. that's all we did. Except eat sweets.
Today we had zone sports day. It was way fun. who knew soccer was fun? But I miss Tennis. That's all for Today
Culture Lesson: There are a lot of transvestites in Thailand. I see them on a basically daily basis. Sometimes it's crazy how much they look like girls, all that gives them away is the adams apple. Sometimes, I'm like "you are fooling no one." But I mean with reincarnation, it makes perfect sense. Why not change sexes? Maybe in your last life you were a girl. Except reincarnation isn't true..... so yeah. Now you know. Oh! And Sunday we weren't allow to invite, because it was voting day!
Love,
Sister Barber
