I'm still in international ward with sister duPlessis, but we have a third companion! I don't know why, but I feel I have been in more trios than any sister in Thailand: The MTC, the week with sister Narayanan and sister Sumitra, and now with sister Lam. Good thing I love trios! And sister Lam is so cute and loveable. I don't know how I have managed to have such amazing companions. From the MTC to now. So she's here because confusing things happened. We thought at first she would just be here for a week, but now we think she'll be here the whole transfer. She's super cute. she's from California, but her parents are both from Hong Kong. She does not speak Chinese. But she can understand Cantonese pretty well. She's from the MTC group after me, so it's interesting to be with someone that's been in Thailand for less time then me.
Sister Avina got baptized this week! When she gave her after baptism testimony, she was just glowing. She said she feels like she was reborn. I think I have told you every time I've written about her how much I love her. This week was a hard week for her ( I feel like Satan works really hard the week before baptism). After her interview she said she was remembering the things she had done before and was feeling bad. Sister Phelps told her that was Satan, that Satan really tries to tell you you can't change. Avina said " before I had many Satan’s in my life, now I have many angels. " love her!
By the way, I have gotten a new companion every transfer meeting! I think I have more companions then anyone else. I guess I'm just hard to get along with (: Either that or President wants everyone to have the opportunity to be companions with me (:
ummmmm nothing else has really happened. I'm still teaching the gospel every day, and I still love my companions. I am so lucky. our house is full of amazing sisters I hope I can be friends with my whole life. yup.
Culture lesson: food in Thailand is spicy. I can eat about three peppers in my food, but one or two tastes better. also spicy here is a total different spicy from like Mexican food. I don't know how, it just hurts in a different way. so after a nicely spicy meal, you lips will burn, and oddly, I'm starting to like that. because the food is so spicy, there are often napkins at tables like there would be salt and pepper shakers, so you can wipe your running nose/eyes.
Spiritual lesson!: Sunday there was this great speaker, He talked about "come follow me." he said a lot of really good things, but the things that I remember most was he said "to follow Christ, we don't just not do bad." It's so true! we are suppose to be even as Jesus, and Jesus filled his days with good. so maybe you all have lives, and I'm on a mission, so it's a little easier for me to go around doing good, but there are so many ways to do good. He also talked about how life is like the tour de France. He use to wonder how those guys did it (now he knows it was the drugs) then he learned about how they follow in the slip stream. I can't remember the exact amount, but if you are following in the slip stream your effort is reduced significantly. like 60%. he said that is like what happens when we follow God, and Jesus. with out him the race of life would be to hard to complete. SO. follow God, don't just not do bad, and keep being awesome!
Love you!
love, sister Barber
