So this week was pretty quiet teaching-wise. We had one day that was.... interesting to say the least.
Sister Somboonnit is still not well, so we were off to a late start, we were Dan Jonesing, and this guy walks past us, walks back and tells Sister Somboonnit that we are the church of the devil, that he is one of God's angels, and then he tried to exorcise demons out of us. Good times. As you may suspect, I don't think he was fully all there. Later that day, still Dan Jonesing, we talked with a girl - she seemed kind of out of it, so we decided to cut our discussion short, and she wanted to give Sister Somboonnit a goodbye kiss; she dodged and we walked quickly away. That was just one lovely day in Thailand.
We also taught our 9-year-old investigator that day, and I never know how to feel after those lessons. Did she learn anything? Anyway, then this week, we had an interesting sacrament meeting. It's the king's birthday this week, and the Thai people love their king because he is awesome, however spending 45 plus minutes reading an article about him, singing his anthem, praying for his health, in SACRAMENT might have been excessive. At least we didn't have many investigators that made it to church yesterday (which I've never been glad for before....)
Oh, it turns out Thailand has an amazing medicine for cold sores. Go figure. I had one for four days, and I told Sister Somboonnit about it, and she was like, "why didn't you tell me earlier? we have medicine for that." It's like magic.
The language is going okay. I can usually understand what is going on, and sometimes I am amazed at how much I understand. But oh dear, I was soooo stressed on Sunday to teach the law of chastity. I knew none of the vocab I needed. Then everyone bailed on me, so it didn't matter anyway. I must study that vocab later though. I can understand Sister Somboonnit really well, but I have issues with other people sometimes. And everyone just bails and tries to speak English when I can't understand Thai... grrr.
Since Phi didn't make it to church yesterday, we will have to push her date back. Sadness.
Thanksgiving was a lot of fun, I don't have any pictures of it though ): I forgot my camera in the apartment. The member's house that we went to was HUGE and there was so much food and people. It felt just like Thanksgiving at home, except there was no Thomas making inappropriate comments. (although I'm sure now he's the elder's quorum president he doesn't do that any more...hehehehe)
That's all the news I can think of in Thailand. I love y'all lots. Please help the missionaries. When members help, the world is a
beautiful place, however, that is not happening in our ward. sigh. We have one recent convert that helps us alot. Other than that, no one really thinks about the missionary work. Please help the missionaries. We are 200% more effective with member help.
loves,
Sister Barber.
Oh! I forgot your Thailand culture lesson this week. Well, as in all Asian countries, the idea is to be as white as possible, therefore, everything that you put on your skin has whitener in it. Hand soap has whitener in it, sunscreen, face wash, deodarant, I swear even shampoo has. so if I come back home and my hands are whiter than the rest of me, do not be surprised
