Nothing major has happened this week. No thunderstorms or apostles, it has been what we would classify as a normal week. We taught our investigators. Phii Chang, who was being difficult now seem very interested. He asked us about the temple (because there's a picture in the back of the book of Mormon we gave him, and we were able to tell him it was an temple (thank goodness I knew the word for temple) and that because of it we can be with our families forever. It was defiantly a Slaughter Your Language moment, but he understood.
We actually had a language moment with him last week. Sister Ellis was trying to tell him this earth is meant to be hard or I guess it would translate to a trial, but she said luug instead of loog and ended up saying this child is a trail, our poor teacher couldn't help it and started laughing, and we actually caught it and started laughing too, it kinda killed the spirit... but oh well.
Phii Nun is being difficult. She never looks at us except when we stop talking, and she almost always answers mai ruu or I don't know. but we will get through this!
We started learning script this week ( so I will have to sit down and translate the script you sent me David.) This Sunday was fantastic. Sundays at the MTC are better than p-days in some ways. I went with two questions in my mind and it seemed like every talk was tailor made to answer one or the other. God really is mindful of his missionaries. Oh and an elder sang so beautifully Savior Redeemer of my Soul. it was a thing of beauty.
I 'm glad everyone now has my email address and that you got my letters. Oh, I wanted to share with you an example of how crazy the elders in my district are.
Our teach Br. Thrapp, in Thai we call him Br. Trap, so first day the elders yelled "IT"S A TRAP!" Then yesterday, while we were teaching our investigator (Br. Thrapp) they drew Br. Thrapp riding Kevin from the movie Up, and destroying Manhattan. Brother Thrapp just came in and gave us a look like why would you do this. it was funny.
We had our first TRC visit (stands for teaching resource center). We taught people who speak Thai, as themselves so no role playing! I really enjoyed it. We taught a girl named Erin, she's been back from her mission for 7 weeks, and the we taught Br. Thrapp because there were only 3 Thai speaking volunteers. It made a nice change to teach Brother Thrapp as himself.
We are getting about 30 more people in our zone today! there will be 7 sisters, 2 Vietnamese, and 5 Cambodian. They will be right next to us. I hope they are awesome!
They still have SYL, I am not doing it as often as I should, I know, but we are going to work on it. It is just difficult because they work really hard here at teaching you how to say "I know God loves you" they do not do as good a job at teaching you to say "I need to use the restroom" which is understand able, but yeah.. I see sister Hardester all over which makes me happy. they are feeding us well. Yeah, that's about all I got. Hope everyone is being good, and feeling good, and being safe!
Love, Sister Barber
P.S our choir director dropped a hint about an all-sisters choir number sometime near the beginning of October. *cough* general conference *cough* relief society *cough*
